CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inspects Trumpet Junction of Guwahati–North Guwahati Bridge, Sets Completion Target

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, June 25, conducted an on-site inspection of the under-construction trumpet junction near the Brahmaputra river, a vital link in the ambitious Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge project. The inspection reflects the state government’s push to fast-track infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic flow in the Guwahati metropolitan region.

Sarma was accompanied by senior officials, including Special Commissioner of PWD (Roads) Bibhuti Saikia and Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, as he reviewed the progress of the junction and urged officials to accelerate the pace of work.

The Chief Minister announced that the Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge is slated for completion by December 2025 or January 2026. While acknowledging that the trumpet junction might not be ready by then, he assured that traffic across the new bridge would still be functional through an alternate route via IIT Guwahati and GNRC. He added that the trumpet junction is expected to be operational by May or June 2026, after which traffic movement between the two sides of the river would become significantly more efficient.

The bridge and its adjoining infrastructure form part of a larger plan to reduce travel time, ease congestion, and bolster urban transport infrastructure in and around Guwahati. The inspection underscores the government’s commitment to meeting project deadlines and ensuring seamless regional connectivity through strategic development.
