Militant Crackdown: Three Arrested in Imphal Operations
Imphal; Security forces in Manipur have delivered a significant blow to proscribed militant outfits, apprehending three active cadres in a series of swift and coordinated operations across Imphal East and West districts. The arrests underscore ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and maintain peace in the region.
In Imphal West, a key figure of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), identified as 31-year-old Yumnam Premkumar Singh alias Nongthang from Lamdeng Awang Leikai, was nabbed under the jurisdiction of Lamsang Police Station. Singh was allegedly a linchpin in extensive extortion rackets, targeting not only elected representatives like Pradhans and Members but also private and government educational institutions throughout the district. Authorities confiscated two mobile handsets and a yellow Vespa scooter (MN01/AE-1745) from his possession, believed to be used in his illicit activities.
Meanwhile, a parallel operation in Imphal East saw the capture of Manoharmayum Kabichandra Sharma alias Rajo, 28, a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Noyon/MFL faction). Hailing from Lamlai Mayai Leikai, Sharma was apprehended at Nongpok Sanjenbam Khullen under Lamlai Police Station. Investigations are currently underway to unravel the full extent of his involvement within the banned outfit.
Further consolidating their gains, security personnel also apprehended a cadre of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-PRO) near the Fish Arcade Shop in Heirangoithong, falling under Singjamei Police Station. The arrested individual, 42-year-old Kangabam Raju Singh alias Purel of Sagolband Kangabam Leikai, Imphal West, was found with a mobile handset, a wallet containing Rs. 80, and his voter ID card at the time of his apprehension.
