Manipur Police Deliver Double Blow to Insurgency with Key Arrests
Imphal: In a significant crackdown on proscribed outfits, security forces in Manipur have apprehended two active cadres of banned organisations, KCP (PWG) and UNLF (P), in separate operations over consecutive days. These arrests have effectively dismantled ongoing activities related to extortion, unlawful arbitration, and recruitment drives, marking a crucial step in maintaining law and order in the state.
On June 29, a joint team of security personnel successfully apprehended Mutum Dinesh Singh, 38, an alleged active cadre of the KCP (PWG). The arrest took place near a primary school at Leirongthel Pitra, under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district. Dinesh, a resident of Yairipok Nungbrang Makha Leikai, Imphal East, was reportedly involved in extorting money from civilians, kidnapping, and actively recruiting new members for the banned group. Authorities seized two mobile phones with SIM cards, three ATM cards, official documents including a PAN card, Aadhaar card, and driving license, along with ₹450 in cash from his possession.
The momentum continued on June 30 with the arrest of Khangembam Bishal Singh, 19, alias Pakpa or Lainingthou, a cadre of the UNLF (P). He was nabbed from Khurai Kongpal Thoubandong, under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East. Bishal, who hails from Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar, Bishnupur district, was allegedly a key figure in illegal dispute settlements, operating through what are commonly known as “kangaroo courts.” His activities predominantly covered land disputes, crimes against women, and informal loan recovery cases across various valley regions of Manipur. From his possession, officials recovered an unregistered white Mahindra Bolero, three mobile phones, and ₹1,030 in cash.
These arrests underscore the unwavering commitment of Manipur’s security forces to curb the menace of insurgent groups and prevent the establishment of parallel justice systems that undermine the legitimate rule of law. The police stated that further investigations are underway to unearth deeper networks and affiliations of these individuals.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police continued their stringent enforcement of traffic laws across the state. On June 30 alone, 72 challans were issued for various motor vehicle violations, leading to the collection of a cumulative fine of ₹1,23,000. A day prior, on June 29, special enforcement drives saw the removal of tinted films from 13 vehicles, ensuring compliance with vehicle visibility regulations and promoting road safety.
