Guwahati Lauds Aadhaar Issuance Shift to DC Offices

Guwahati – In a significant development for Assam residents, the state government’s decision to exclusively route Aadhaar card issuance for adults through District Commissioners’ (DC) offices has garnered crucial support. All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Rafiqul Islam has voiced his endorsement of the new policy, while simultaneously underscoring the paramount importance of establishing a seamless and transparent system for its implementation.

Speaking to reporters on the matter, Mr. Islam articulated his party’s stance, stating, “Whether Aadhaar cards are issued through the District Commissioners or the Chief Minister’s Office, we have no objection. What truly matters is that Aadhaar cards do not end up in the hands of ineligible or non-Indian individuals.” This statement reflects a broader concern about the integrity of the identification process and its potential misuse.

While welcoming the government’s apparent intent to streamline and secure Aadhaar enrolment, the AIUDF leader appealed to the authorities to ensure that ordinary citizens are not subjected to undue hardship owing to potential procedural bottlenecks. He elaborated, “The government should ensure that the DC offices are adequately equipped to handle public applications efficiently. People should not be made to wait endlessly in queues. The process must be proper and accessible.” His comments highlight the need for robust infrastructure and well-defined protocols to manage the expected influx of applications at the DC offices.

Mr. Islam further reiterated the critical need to uphold the integrity of the Aadhaar issuance process, while concurrently ensuring that genuine citizens receive their vital documents without encountering unnecessary inconvenience or delays. This emphasis on both security and citizen-centric service delivery will be crucial as the new system comes into effect across Assam.
