Arunachal Sees Rs 1200 Crore GST Revenue Growth, Celebrates Eight Years of Reform
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has posted a remarkable ₹1200 crore increase in revenue under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime during the last fiscal year, marking a significant boost in tax compliance and economic momentum. The milestone was announced by Commissioner of Tax and Excise Lobsang Tsering during the 8th GST Day celebration held at the State Banquet Hall in Itanagar on Tuesday.
Highlighting the continuing positive trend, Tsering also noted that the state had already collected over ₹300 crore in GST revenue within the first half of the current financial year. He praised the contribution of citizens, stating, “Taxpayers are the backbone of India’s development. Their contribution fuels the nation’s progress.”
Organised by the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Central Excise Commissionerate (CEC), the event carried the theme “GST: Simplifying Taxes; Empowering Citizens.” It brought together officials, business leaders, and dignitaries to reflect on eight years of the unified tax system that reshaped India’s indirect taxation landscape.
Delivering the keynote address as chief guest, Prof. Sushanta Kumar Nayak, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, commended the tax department’s efforts to strengthen transparency and promote a compliant tax culture. He stressed the far-reaching economic changes brought about by the GST system since its implementation.
In recognition of outstanding tax discipline, five entrepreneurs were felicitated during the event for their adherence to GST norms. Several government officials and police personnel also received honours for their contributions to tax enforcement and smooth administrative functioning.
Among the honoured entrepreneurs was Likha Jully Neelam, proprietor of M/s Lifecare, who recounted her experience adapting to GST requirements. “The initial years were challenging, but the transition has become smoother with improved digital tools and the support of local officials,” she shared.
Earlier, CGST Commissioner Shyam Kanu Mahanta spoke about the CEC’s initiatives in enforcement, taxpayer assistance, and compliance facilitation. Joint Commissioner Amit Kumar Singh also addressed attendees, reinforcing the department’s commitment to efficient service delivery.
The event included screenings of two short documentaries—one produced by the CGST office in Itanagar and another by the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services, New Delhi—highlighting the evolution and achievements of the GST framework over the past eight years.
