Local Administration Pledges Enhanced Food Security for Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong
Guwahati: A significant high-level gathering convened on Tuesday evening at the Arboretum Centre in Diphu, focusing on streamlining the distribution of Ration Cards and onboarding new beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Public Distribution System (PDS) across Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts.
The session, presided over by Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), saw the participation of prominent figures including Member of Parliament Amarsing Tisso, Howraghat MLA Darsing Ronghang, Diphu MLA Bidya Sing Engleng, alongside various KAAC Executive Members, MACs, departmental chairpersons, and senior officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
In a key announcement, CEM Ronghang confirmed the addition of 8,000 fresh NFSA beneficiaries, with an equal split of 4,000 for each district. Notably, 2,000 ration allocations have been specifically earmarked for ex-servicemen and individuals with disabilities, underscoring the council’s dedication to comprehensive welfare. To foster greater local supervision and accountability, the assembly decided to establish NFSA Committees in every MAC constituency, with the respective MAC serving as Chairman and the LAMPS Chairman and Secretary as members. A District NFSA Committee is also set to be formed, led by the CEM and including MPs, MLAs, Deputy Commissioners, and the District Food & Civil Supplies Officer (DF&CSO). CEM Ronghang directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to accelerate the process of ration card issuance and guarantee the prompt delivery of essential commodities such as rice, dal, sugar, and salt to all deserving households. The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to bolster transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in the execution of food security programmes throughout the region.
