Insurgent Crackdown: Three Arrested in Manipur Operations

Imphal, Manipur: In a significant push against insurgency, Manipur Police and allied security forces have successfully apprehended three active members of proscribed valley-based insurgent groups across the state between July 1 and July 2. The arrests, made in separate operations, underscore ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order in the region.

The latest arrest occurred on July 2 when a vigilant team from Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district nabbed Oinam Hemanjit Singh alias Taibangsemba, 50, an active cadre of the PREPAK (Pro) outfit. Hemanjit, a resident of Thangalawai Sabal Leikai, was apprehended from the Meitram area. Authorities confiscated a diesel auto-rickshaw and two mobile handsets from his possession, indicating his suspected involvement in insurgent activities.

Earlier, on July 1, the Waikhong Police Station in Kakching district made a crucial arrest, taking into custody Lourembam Suresh alias Mairongba alias Toto, 47, an active member of the KCP (PWG). Suresh, hailing from Heirangoithong Oinam Leikai in Imphal West district, was apprehended from Elang Khangpokpi Awang Leikai, Maning Pat. A mobile phone was recovered during the operation.

In a separate, yet coordinated, operation on the same day, security forces apprehended another KCP (PWG) operative, Oinam Tomba Singh alias Herojit, 57. Tomba, a resident of Tumukhong Awang Leikai in Imphal East district, was picked up from Sekmaijin Maning Leikai under Hiyanglam Police Station, also within Kakching district. Police confirmed his involvement in several extortion cases, specifically targeting owners of oil pumps in both Kakching and Thoubal districts. A keypad mobile handset was recovered from him at the time of his arrest. These arrests are expected to disrupt the operations of the respective insurgent groups and bring relief to affected communities.
