Mizoram Minister Pushes for ESI Hospital and Dedicated Stadium in State
Aizawl: Mizoram’s Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Lalnghinglova Hmar, has made a strong plea to the Union government for the establishment of an Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital and a dedicated sports stadium in the northeastern state. The minister conveyed these crucial requests during a meeting with Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Wednesday, an official confirmed on Thursday.
During the discussions, Minister Hmar underscored the pressing necessity for a 30-bed ESI hospital in Mizoram, emphasising its importance for the welfare of the state’s workforce. He further urged Minister Mandaviya to consider relaxing the existing norms for Mizoram to facilitate the swift establishment of this much-needed healthcare facility.
Beyond healthcare, Minister Hmar also highlighted the critical need for enhanced sports infrastructure in Mizoram. He specifically requested the Centre’s support in setting up a dedicated stadium, asserting that quality sporting facilities are essential for Mizoram to effectively compete with other states in the realm of sports.
In a positive development, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reportedly assured Minister Hmar that concrete steps would be taken to ensure the establishment of an ESI hospital in Mizoram. Furthermore, Mandaviya committed to designating a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) to extend support for the construction of vital sports infrastructure within the state, signalling a promising outlook for Mizoram’s development in both health and sports sectors.
