Notorious Hitmen’s Custody Extended in Meghalaya Murder Case

Shillong: The judicial custody of three alleged hitmen, accused of the brutal murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, has been extended by a court in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district. Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi, all hailing from Madhya Pradesh, were produced before the court on Thursday via video conferencing from the Shillong district jail. Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda confirmed the extension of their judicial custody by 14 days.

The trio is implicated in the hacking of Raja Raghuvanshi at Sohra in May. The case further implicates Raghuvanshi’s wife, Sonam, and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, who are also currently in judicial custody, accused of orchestrating the gruesome crime. Raja Raghuvanshi, who had married Sonam on May 11, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His mutilated body was tragically discovered in a deep gorge in the Sohra area of the East Khasi Hills district on June 2, sending shockwaves through the region.

Adding to the complexity of the ongoing investigation, three other individuals from Indore – a property dealer, a flat owner, and a security guard – have also been apprehended in connection with the case. They face charges related to obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence at a flat in Indore, where Sonam and Raj Kushwaha reportedly stayed after the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi. The extended judicial custody of the hitmen underscores the continued efforts by authorities to unravel the full extent of this shocking crime.
