Imphal: In a significant stride towards restoring peace and order, joint security forces operating in Manipur have unearthed a colossal arsenal of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.
The extensive search operations, conducted over the night of July 3rd and into the morning of July 4th, 2025, have dealt a substantial blow to illegal weapon stockpiles across the region.
Acting on precise intelligence, integrated teams comprising the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) executed meticulously coordinated operations. These efforts spanned the rugged hill districts of Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur, focusing on suspected hideouts nestled within remote and interior locales. The successful culmination of these operations led to one of the most significant seizures in the state’s recent history.
The recovered cache is truly staggering, encompassing a total of 203 weapons. Among these are 21 INSAS rifles, 11 AK-series rifles, 26 SLRs, 2 sniper rifles, 3 carbines, and 17 .303 rifles. Furthermore, the haul includes 2 51mm mortars, 2 MA assault rifles, 3 M79 grenade launchers, and a remarkable 38 ‘Pompi’ improvised guns, alongside numerous pistols, bolt-action rifles, and locally fabricated firearms.
Beyond the extensive array of weaponry, security forces also seized 30 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 10 grenades, 9 Pompi shells, and 2 Lathode grenades. A substantial quantity of 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm ammunition was also recovered, further highlighting the sheer scale of the illicit arms network.
This successful operation marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to curb armed violence and dismantle the infrastructure of militant groups in Manipur. Authorities are of the firm belief that the recovered arms were intended for use by insurgent factions or other anti-social elements, posing a direct threat to the stability of the region.
Security forces continue to remain on high alert, indicating that further operations are anticipated in the coming days. The resolute objective is to unearth any remaining hidden caches and ensure the sustained maintenance of peace and normalcy across the state.
