Manipur’s Tribal Heartlands Bloom with ‘Dharti Aaba’ Welfare Wave

Imphal: Tamenglong and Churachandpur, two of Manipur’s diverse districts, are witnessing a quiet yet profound revolution as the central government’s Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJUA) brings essential welfare services directly to the doorsteps of tribal communities. This initiative, a crucial component of the larger Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh mission spearheaded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, is effectively bridging the longstanding gap between tribal citizens and vital governmental support.

In Tamenglong, the Duigailong Baptist Church Community Hall recently transformed into a bustling hub of public service, a testament to the campaign’s grassroots approach. Here, a convergence of over 20 government departments ensured that residents could access a wide array of benefits under a single roof. From health cards and PM-Kisan benefits to Jan Dhan accounts, Aadhaar updates, Ayushman Bharat enrolment, and scholarships, the camp offered comprehensive assistance. “We have invited around 20 line departments so that they can provide their social security measures and deliver essential services directly to the villages,” stated D Meidinbui, Sub-Divisional Officer of Tamenglong, highlighting the strategic intent behind the consolidated effort. For locals who previously faced arduous journeys across rugged hilly terrain, the convenience of receiving government schemes right in their village was a welcome relief. Elders, women, and farmers, many of whom had been eligible for these services for years but unable to access them, lined up with hopeful anticipation.

A similar wave of energy swept through Churachandpur, a Kuki-Zo-majority district, where outreach camps mirrored the success seen in Tamenglong. A diverse range of services, including free medical check-ups, Aadhaar registration, ration card renewals, and enrolment for skill development programmes, were readily available. Departments spanning Health, Agriculture, Education, Social Welfare, and IT actively participated, ensuring the drive was both comprehensive and inclusive. Beyond merely connecting policy with people, the DAJUA initiative places a strong emphasis on honouring tribal identity and upholding dignity in service delivery. Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) received special attention, benefiting from additional support and services specifically tailored to their needs. This grassroots endeavour has emerged as a crucial lifeline for communities that have historically found themselves on the fringes of access. By making governance mobile, inclusive, and deeply human-centred, DAJUA is ushering in a silent but significant transformation across Manipur’s hilly regions. With each successful camp, the government reinforces its unwavering commitment: to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left behind.
