Manipur Nabs Five Insurgents Amidst Intensified Security Drive
Imphal: Manipur’s security forces delivered a significant blow to insurgent groups on Sunday, apprehending five active cadres from two proscribed outfits in separate, swift operations. The arrests are part of the state’s unwavering commitment to stamping out militant activities and upholding peace and order across the region.
In an intelligence-led operation, two active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), identified as Sangomshumpham Musha Ahamed alias Ibobi, 40, and Md. Farooque Shah, 25, both residents of Khomidok in Imphal East, were nabbed from Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai under Sagolmang Police Station. The duo, found in possession of a Honda Dio scooter, were reportedly caught in the act of extorting money from common citizens, a rampant menace the security forces are determined to curb.
In a distinct yet equally impactful operation, Manipur Police secured three active cadres of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Keirao Khunou, falling under Irilbung Police Station, also in Imphal East. Among those apprehended was Laishram Vishan Meitei alias Bhojo alias Nongthon, 28, from Lamphel Sana Keithel in Imphal West. The two other individuals arrested in this operation were juveniles and have been handled in strict adherence to the Juvenile Justice Act, underscoring the legal framework guiding such sensitive cases.
Beyond the robust counter-insurgency efforts, Manipur Police continued its focused drive against motor vehicle violations, issuing 45 challans on July 6 for various traffic offences, amassing fines worth a substantial Rs 83,500. This follows a special drive a day earlier where tinted films were removed from 16 vehicles, a clear indication of ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and compliance.
Security forces have also maintained a high-octane vigil across the state, undertaking sustained search operations and area domination exercises, particularly in fringe and vulnerable zones. The establishment of 111 checkpoints across both hill and valley districts led to the temporary detention of 16 individuals for thorough verification and questioning. These consistent operations firmly reiterate the government’s resolute dedication to safeguarding public safety and ensuring a secure Manipur for all its citizens.
