Sikkim: Gangtok Police Crack Down on Night-Time Violations

Gangtok: In a concerted effort to curb rising night-time disturbances, the Gangtok Police, under the direct supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), conducted a comprehensive night patrolling operation across the city and the Ranipool area on the night of July 10. The proactive measure was initiated in response to growing concerns regarding a surge in rash driving, drunk driving incidents, and disruptions caused by commercial establishments operating beyond permitted hours.

The patrolling teams focused on several critical objectives during the late-night sweep. A primary focus was the strict enforcement of closing times for disco pubs, bars, and nightclubs, many of which have reportedly been operating past their stipulated hours. Authorities have issued a stern warning, indicating that stringent action will be taken against any establishment found flouting these regulations.

A significant component of the night operation involved extensive vehicle checking. This initiative aimed to rein in drunk driving, rash driving, and other traffic violations that frequently escalate risks for commuters, particularly in the late hours. Numerous vehicles were stopped at designated checkpoints, with police personnel conducting thorough inspections. Breathalyzer tests were administered where deemed necessary, and violators faced penalties ranging from fines to official warnings, in strict accordance with legal protocols.
