Manipur Extends Compassionate Hand to Martyr’s Kin
Imphal – In a move lauded across the state, the Manipur Governor-in-Council has greenlit the appointment of Chingakham Naoba Singh, the younger brother of martyred Border Security Force (BSF) constable Deepak Chingakham, as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the Civil Police. The state home department made the much-anticipated announcement on Friday, bringing a measure of solace to the grieving family.
Constable Deepak Chingakham, a valiant 25-year-old serving with the 7th Battalion of the BSF, made the ultimate sacrifice on May 10. He was martyred during ‘Operation Sindoor’ when Pakistani forces unleashed unprovoked cross-border firing in the volatile RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir, leaving a void in the hearts of his loved ones and the nation.
Following the devastating loss, Deepak’s bereaved father had approached the Governor with a heartfelt plea, requesting a state government job for his younger son, Naoba Singh. Interestingly, the family had earlier respectfully declined a job offer from the BSF within Manipur, expressing a strong desire for Naoba to remain closer to home during their period of profound grief and adjustment.
The official statement from the Governor-in-Council underscored the rationale behind their decision: “The Governor-in-Council, after due consideration, found merit in the request, based on the exceptional nature of the case involving martyrdom in national service and the moral and humanitarian responsibility of the state to support families of national heroes.” This reflects a deep understanding of the family’s emotional needs and the state’s commitment to its bravehearts.
This compassionate gesture follows an earlier decision on May 15, when the Governor-in-Council had already sanctioned an enhanced ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the martyred soldier, a fitting tribute acknowledging his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
