Arunachal Pradesh Pushes for Bioeconomy Boost with Key Proposals

Itanagar: Itanagar’s vision for a greener, more prosperous future took a significant step forward as Dasanglu Pul, the state’s Minister for Women & Child Development and Science & Technology, engaged in crucial discussions with Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi. The focus of their high-level meeting was to unlock Arunachal Pradesh’s immense biodiversity potential and accelerate its nascent bioeconomy.

Central to Minister Pul’s impassioned appeal was the urgent need for an Eastern Arunachal Regional Centre for Bioresource Management and Development. This ambitious project, she articulated, is vital for safeguarding the region’s unique biological heritage and fostering development that respects its ecological balance. Further strengthening the state’s scientific infrastructure, Minister Pul also advocated for the establishment of Arunachal’s first Ex-Situ Germplasm Bank, a critical facility for conserving rare and economically significant plant species.

In a move set to ignite innovation and entrepreneurship, a proposal for a Bio-NEST Bioincubator at Roing was also tabled. This incubator aims to be a hotbed for biotechnology research and development, nurturing new ideas and businesses within the state. A pressing concern highlighted by Minister Pul was the immediate release of core grant support to the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCS&T). This crucial funding, she explained, is essential to alleviate staff hardships and bolster the institution’s overall capacity. Minister Pul conveyed her gratitude to Dr. Singh for his positive reception, reaffirming Arunachal Pradesh’s steadfast commitment to scientific progress that is both sustainable and inclusive of its diverse regions. Dr. Singh, in turn, pledged the Union government’s unwavering support for Arunachal Pradesh’s scientific endeavours and its dedication to environmental stewardship.
