Tragedy Strikes Roing: School Shuts, Mob Lynching Shakes Town
Roing: Roing town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Dibang Valley district is reeling today after a series of escalating events, culminating in the shocking death of an alleged molester and the immediate closure of a prominent school. Tensions had been simmering following allegations of molestation involving minor girls at the Mount Carmel Mission School, which reached a boiling point yesterday.
In a decisive move to address the grave concerns and ensure child safety, the District Administration has ordered the immediate and permanent closure of Mount Carmel Mission School. Parents and guardians have been directed to withdraw their children without delay and secure admissions in alternative government or recognised private institutions within their vicinity.
However, the situation took a tragic turn on July 11 when an enraged mob, reportedly incensed by the allegations, took law into their own hands. They forcibly seized 20-year-old Riza-ul Kurim, who had been detained by the police in connection with the alleged assault. The mob then tied Kurim to a tree and subjected him to a brutal assault. He sustained grievous injuries in the attack and subsequently succumbed to them, marking a horrifying act of vigilantism that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Responding to the alarming breakdown of law and order and to prevent any further escalation, district authorities have swiftly invoked Section 144 of the CrPC, imposing a curfew across Roing town. Additional security personnel have been deployed to sensitive areas, and the administration is maintaining a close vigil on the ground. Officials have issued an urgent appeal to citizens to uphold peace and allow due legal processes to unfold. Investigations are currently underway into both the initial molestation allegations and the circumstances that led to the fatal mob violence.
