CSR Focus: Mizoram CM Pitches for 10% National Fund Allocation to Northeast

New Delhi: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, currently on an official visit to the national capital, held a crucial meeting with K. Moses Chalai, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises under the Ministry of Finance, at Mizoram House today. The discussions revolved around optimising Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the accelerated development of Mizoram.

During the significant interaction, Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted that the Mizoram government has already submitted a proposal to the Union Finance Minister. This proposal seeks a dedicated reservation of 10% of the total national CSR funds specifically for the Northeastern States. He underscored the pressing need for this allocation, citing the persistent challenges faced by the region in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and connectivity, all of which demand sustained support from both governmental and corporate entities.

Secretary K. Moses Chalai, in response, assured the Chief Minister of his department’s continued commitment to enhancing CSR allocations for Mizoram. He also revealed that the Union Finance Secretary had previously engaged in discussions concerning this vital issue.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to K. Moses Chalai for the invaluable support Mizoram received during Chalai’s tenure as Secretary of the North Eastern Council (NEC). The Chief Minister noted that several key projects in Mizoram saw considerable progress under Chalai’s leadership at the NEC, a contribution deeply appreciated by the people of the state.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasised the strategic importance of channelling CSR funds into specific areas like skill development, environmental conservation, tribal welfare, and rural entrepreneurship. He reiterated that these sectors are in urgent need of attention and could witness substantial advancement with proper planning and robust financial backing.
