Thrilling Delay: ‘Verity’ Film Pushes Back Release to October 2026
Mumbai – Cinephiles eagerly awaiting the big-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s gripping novel, Verity, will have to exercise a little more patience. Amazon MGM Studios has announced a shift in the film’s release date, moving it from its previously scheduled May 15, 2026, slot to October 2, 2026. This news comes as a minor setback for thriller aficionados who have been tracking the project closely.
The much-anticipated suspense saga is helmed by director Michael Showalter, promising a taut narrative brought to life by an ensemble cast featuring Hollywood heavyweights. Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdova, and Brady Wagner are set to portray key roles in this intricate tale. Dakota Johnson steps into the shoes of Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer whose life takes an unexpected turn when she’s tasked with completing a popular book series. The original author, Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway, is incapacitated after a mysterious accident. Lowen’s foray into Verity’s literary world unearths a startling manuscript that threatens to unravel the carefully constructed facade of the Crawford family.
The script for Verity has seen several iterations, with Nick Antosca penning the final version. Earlier drafts were crafted by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley, and April Maguire, indicating the meticulous attention given to the adaptation of Hoover’s intricate plot. The film boasts a strong production team, with Hathaway, Hoover herself, Showalter, and Antosca among the prominent producers.
The new release date, October 2, 2026, is shaping up to be a bustling day at the global box office. Industry insiders note that Alejandro Iñárritu’s upcoming project, starring Tom Cruise, is also slated for a premiere on the very same date, setting the stage for a potential showdown among blockbusters.
Verity has had an interesting trajectory even before its cinematic journey began. Colleen Hoover initially self-published the novel in 2018, where it quickly garnered a dedicated readership. Its immense popularity led to it being picked up by Grand Central Publishing in 2021, propelling it to become a New York Times bestseller. The book ignited a fervent online community, spawning countless fan theories and dream casting discussions. This isn’t Hoover’s first foray into film adaptations; her other chart-topping novel, It Ends With Us, also made it to the big screen, featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in lead roles.
