Arunachal Para-Athletes Shine at International Championship with Medals and Determination

Itanagar: Para-athletes from Arunachal Pradesh showcased exceptional talent and resilience at the 7th International Para Athletics Championship 2025, held in Bengaluru from July 10 to 12, earning accolades and national pride through their spirited performances.

Tingong Wangpan stood out as the standout performer for the state, capturing two gold medals in the 400m and 200m sprints under the T35 category. His dominant runs not only secured the top podium finishes but also reflected the grit and determination that define India’s emerging para-sports movement.

Adding to the medal count, Kipa Mero clinched a bronze in the Javelin Throw (F13 category), underlining Arunachal Pradesh’s growing presence and competitiveness on the national and international para-athletics stage.

The team’s success was guided by coach Techi Sonu, whose leadership and training were instrumental in preparing the athletes. Under his direction, the contingent demonstrated discipline, strategic focus, and unwavering teamwork — qualities that translated into results on the track and field.

The achievements have generated widespread celebration across the state, inspiring a new generation of para-athletes and reinforcing Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to inclusive sports development. The performance is being hailed as a turning point for adaptive athletics in the region.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to X to congratulate the athletes and support staff, writing, “Heartfelt congratulations to all the athletes and the support team! Your achievements have brought great honour to Arunachal and lit the path for many future champions.”

The Bengaluru championship not only offered a competitive platform but also served as a reminder of the transformative power of sport, regardless of physical limitations — a message powerfully echoed by Arunachal’s trailblazing para-athletes.
