Arunachal: East Siang Police Seize Heroin, Arrest Three in Coordinated Anti-Drug Crackdowns
Itanagar: In a major success against narcotics trafficking, Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang Police arrested three drug peddlers in two separate but coordinated operations conducted by the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) in Pasighat and Mebo. Acting on credible intelligence, the raids resulted in the seizure of 22.69 grams of suspected heroin, along with Rs. 2,470 in cash, empty vials, tobacco containers, two smartphones, and a Maruti Alto car.
The operations, led by DSP Ayup Boko, ADS In-Charge, were supported by a team including SI K. Tangha, SI (SG) Gumkar Tada, SI (SG) T Tapak, Ct Bharat Tamut, Ct Karyom Riram, Ct Samuel Modi, Ct A Miyu, and L/Ct G Pangkak. The raids were conducted in close coordination with the Anti-Drug Warriors of Pasighat and were monitored by Executive Magistrates to ensure due legal process.
In the first raid, 12.24 grams of suspected heroin were recovered from the residence of Obang Modi, a resident of Mariyang village in Upper Siang district. The search was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and Executive Magistrate Mum Messar.
In the second operation, 10.45 grams of suspected heroin were seized from the possession of Kabit Moyong, a resident of Komsing village in Siang district. The drugs were discovered during a vehicle search conducted under the supervision of Executive Magistrate Sanjay Taram.
All operations were videographed and logged using the e-Sakshya App to ensure full transparency and accountability. The suspects from the Pasighat operation were taken to Pasighat Police Station, while those involved in the Mebo case were handed over to Mebo Police Station along with the seized items.
Two separate cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, 1985:
• PSGT/PS/C/No. 55/2025 at Pasighat Police Station under Sections 21(b)/27(a)
• Mebo/PS/C/No. 08/2025 at Mebo Police Station under Section 21(b) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba, IPS commended the swift and efficient action by the ADS team. He reiterated the district police’s zero-tolerance policy on drug-related offences and called upon the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts to build a drug-free East Siang.
