Manipur Cracks Down: Six Arrested in State-Wide Anti-Insurgency Blitz

Imphal – Manipur Police and other security forces have launched a concerted drive against insurgency, extortion, and various illegal activities, leading to six significant arrests across the state on July 14. This intensified operation underscores the authorities’ unwavering commitment to restoring law and order and reining in proscribed outfits.

In Imphal West, security personnel apprehended 34-year-old Ningthoujam Herojit of Keibi Khullen Makha Leikai from Singjamei Chingamakha along Manipur College Road. A 7.65 mm pistol with three rounds and a silver Grand i20 car were seized from his possession, indicating a clear link to illegal arms.

Further, Kh. Ratan Singh, 48, from Naodakhong Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district, was taken into custody. His arrest is a follow-up to a raid on July 3 at his residence, where a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, highlighting ongoing investigations into larger networks.

The crackdown also netted two active cadres of the banned KCP (MFL) near Kasturi Bridge in Thangal Bazar, Imphal West. Moirangthem Gandhi Singh (34) and Mutum Anand Meitei (37) were identified as key figures involved in extorting and threatening local traders. Police recovered mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, and a sum of Rs. 4,050 in cash from them.

In Thoubal district, Koijam Samananda Meitei (29) of Yairipok Malom Thongmaya, an active member of the RPF/PLA, was arrested from Leirongthel Pitra under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station. He is accused of extorting money from the public and actively recruiting new cadres for the proscribed outfit. A mobile phone and an Airtel SIM card were recovered during his arrest.

Continuing their targeted operations, police also apprehended Thokchom Ibungo Singh (32) of Kumbi Setupur Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district, an active cadre of KCP (Apunba), from his residence. Previously a member of PREPAK (PRO), he had reportedly joined KCP (Apunba) in April 2024. An Aadhaar card and a mobile phone with a SIM card were seized from him.

Beyond counter-insurgency, Manipur Police maintained its stringent enforcement against traffic violations. On July 14 alone, 62 challans were issued to motor vehicle offenders, resulting in fines totalling Rs. 1,22,000. This follows a previous day’s action where 17 vehicles were detained for lacking registration documents and number plates, and tinted films were removed from 19 vehicles. Authorities affirm that these sustained actions are integral to their broader strategy to uphold law and order and dismantle the influence of banned outfits across Manipur.
