Sikkim CM Calls for Skill Revolution on World Youth Skills Day
Gangtok– On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today extended his greetings to the people of the state, particularly the youth, underscoring the critical role of skills and empowerment in navigating an increasingly dynamic global landscape. His address resonated with a powerful message of preparing the younger generation for the challenges and opportunities of the modern era.
This year’s global theme, “Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills,” was lauded by the Chief Minister as “timely and significant.” He emphasised the pervasive impact of technology on the world, asserting the urgent need for Sikkim’s youth to be equipped to confidently face the evolving demands of the 21st century.
“The youth are the architects of our future,” CM Tamang declared, reiterating his government’s steadfast commitment to fostering skill development and employment generation across the Himalayan state. “We must give them the tools, the training, and the opportunities they need to succeed.”
The Chief Minister articulated the state’s vision of cultivating a generation that is both Saksham (capable) and Kaushal (skilled), a crucial step towards realising the dream of a “Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim”—a golden, prosperous, and self-reliant state.
Skill development, he asserted, remains the cornerstone of the government’s comprehensive strategy for economic and social upliftment. Various schemes and programmes are actively being implemented, all aimed at enhancing the employability of the youth, nurturing entrepreneurial spirit, and ensuring a skilled workforce that aligns seamlessly with the requirements of modern industries.
“We have introduced training programmes, financial help for start-ups, and job placement services,” he stated, highlighting the concrete steps being taken. “Through these efforts, we are not only nurturing talent but also building a workforce that is ready for the future.”
The Chief Minister urged the youth of Sikkim to pursue their aspirations with unwavering dedication, advocating for a spirit of continuous curiosity and commitment to learning. He also extended an appeal to educational institutions, industries, civil society organisations, and private companies to collaborate in the crucial endeavour of empowering the youth, particularly in the vital domains of Artificial Intelligence and digital proficiency.
He also highlighted the significant contributions of various institutions established by the state’s Skill Development Department, including the Sikkim Model Career Counselling Centres, Niyukti Kendra, Apprenticeship Cell, Command Centre, and Placement Cell. “These centres are giving our youth the right support to build global careers,” he concluded, proudly adding, “They are not just preparing for local jobs but also representing Sikkim’s talent on the international stage.”
