Assam: Kachugaon Lifts Inaugural Bodoland CEM Cup in Thrilling Final

Kokrajhar, July 16, 2025: History was made at the SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar today as Kachugaon emerged victorious in the much-anticipated final of the 1st Bodoland CEM Cup 2025, defeating a valiant Kajalgaon side 2-0. The championship decider was a spectacle of passion and camaraderie, played out before an enthusiastic crowd, solidifying the tournament’s place in the region’s sporting annals.

The grand finale was graced by the esteemed presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who presided over the inauguration as the chief guest. He was joined by a distinguished lineup of dignitaries including Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa, Bodoland Welfare Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, and BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, underscoring the significance of the event.

The champions, Kachugaon, were felicitated with a generous cash prize of ₹1.5 lakh and the coveted championship trophy, presented by Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa amidst cheers. Not to be outdone, runners-up Kajalgaon received a commendable ₹1 lakh and their trophy, handed over by Kokrajhar MP Joyanta Basumatary, recognising their spirited performance throughout the tournament.

Individual brilliance also shone brightly, with Kachugaon’s Urkhao Muchahary earning the prestigious title of Best Player of the Tournament, while his teammate Golap Brahma was deservedly named the Best Goalkeeper. Both exceptional talents were awarded ₹10,000 each. In a testament to their skill and potential, both Muchahary and Brahma have earned a call-up to represent Bodoland FC in the upcoming Durand Cup, a truly momentous step in their burgeoning careers.

The Bodoland CEM Cup 2025 has etched itself into the fabric of regional sports not just for its thrilling culmination, but for its sheer, unprecedented scale. Encompassing a staggering 3,760 teams and engaging over 67,000 players drawn from 420 Village Council Development Committees (VCDCs) across the entire Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), it stands as one of the largest grassroots football tournaments ever organised in the area. This monumental initiative was conceived with a noble vision: to foster peace, unity, and brotherhood among diverse communities, leveraging the universal appeal and power of football.
