Assam: Rajdhani Express to Finally Halt at Diphu, Boosting Hill Connectivity
Guwahati: In a significant stride towards bolstering rail connectivity in Assam’s picturesque hill districts, the prestigious Dibrugarh Town–New Delhi Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12423/12424) is all set to make a scheduled stop at Diphu Railway Station. This much-awaited development, effective July 17, marks a new chapter for the Lumding Division of Northeast Frontier Railway and the wider Karbi Anglong region.
The decision to introduce this vital halt comes after persistent efforts by Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso, who had vigorously championed the cause, responding to the long-standing demands of local residents for improved rail access. This move is being hailed as a landmark achievement, promising direct, high-speed rail access to the national capital via one of India’s most esteemed trains, a major boon for the people of Karbi Anglong and its neighbouring areas.
To commemorate this momentous occasion, the Divisional Railway Manager of the Lumding Division has extended an invitation to MP Amarsing Tisso to officially flag off the inaugural Rajdhani Express service from Diphu. The celebratory event is scheduled to take place at Diphu Railway Station at 11:00 PM on July 17. The DOWN Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12423) will make its first historic halt at Diphu at 23:21 hrs on the same night, while the UP Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12424) is slated to stop at the station at 02:24 hrs on July 18. Both trains will observe a convenient two-minute halt.
The Dibrugarh Town–New Delhi Rajdhani Express, a daily service covering approximately 2,421 km in just over 37 hours, is renowned for its speed, comfort, and top-notch onboard amenities. With Diphu now firmly on its route, passengers from Karbi Anglong and adjoining areas will enjoy the convenience of directly boarding the Rajdhani Express, eliminating the need for arduous journeys to more distant stations. MP Amarsing Tisso expressed his profound satisfaction with the initiative, terming it a “historic step for the people of Assam’s hills,” and reiterated his steadfast commitment to continue working towards enhancing infrastructure and connectivity across the region.
