Meghalaya Squad Gears Up for Dr BC Roy Trophy Challenge in Amritsar

Shillong: The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) today unveiled its 20-member squad, all set to represent the state at the 2025 Junior Boys’ National Football Championship (Tier 1) for the coveted Dr BC Roy Trophy. The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to kick off in Amritsar, promising a thrilling showcase of young footballing talent from across the nation.

Meghalaya finds itself in a challenging Group B, where they will face off against formidable opponents including defending champions West Bengal, footballing powerhouse Kerala, and a strong Tamil Nadu side. The young guns from the North-East are slated to begin their campaign on July 21 against Kerala, followed by a high-stakes encounter with West Bengal on July 23, and concluding their group stage fixtures against Tamil Nadu on July 25.

The squad, meticulously assembled and led by head coach Seibor Sana, comprises a vibrant mix of promising young footballers. The team is determined to surpass last year’s performance, where they unfortunately exited at the group stage, finishing third in Group C. Coach Sana, with his wealth of experience, has been instrumental in honing the skills and fostering the potential of this young and resolute team during the rigorous selection process. The players have reportedly shown immense dedication and grit, fueling optimism within the MFA ranks.

A heartfelt send-off ceremony was organised in Shillong, attended by key MFA dignitaries including President Hamlet Dohling, Vice-President Cliff Nongrum, and Executive Member Freddy Kharpran. Addressing the aspiring footballers, the officials extended their best wishes, expressing unwavering confidence in the squad’s abilities. They passionately urged the players to embody the spirit of Meghalaya, representing the state with utmost pride, unwavering resilience, and true sportsmanship on the national stage.

The full squad includes Danehskhem Ronghang, Dasuk Banphrang Diengdoh, Skhemlang Marthong, Medonbanshan Kurkalang, Robindor Kyrsian, Venand Brandon Marboh, Baniar Kharsahnoh, Mewanpyntngen Lyngkhoi, Prosperwell Ryntong, Yeomanlyson Shadap, Shanborlang Khongjee, Melvinstar Lyngdoh Nongbet, Clifford Buam, Marc M Marak, Alvin Kharbani, Chanjib Chetry, Aiborlang Mulieh, Seibok Lyngdoh, Aryan Nongkhlaw, and Thrisilbirth T Sangma. The Dr BC Roy Trophy serves as a crucial platform for under-17 footballers to showcase their talent and gain invaluable experience. Meghalaya’s journey in this prestigious tournament will undoubtedly be a stern test of their readiness and potential against some of the strongest youth teams the country has to offer.
