Search Intensifies for Missing Man Swept Away by Swollen River in Sikkim
Pakyong, Sikkim: A massive search operation is underway in Sikkim’s Pakyong district to locate 25-year-old Anish Chettri, who is feared to have been swept away by a swollen river. Anish went missing on the night of July 13 near the Setipool area following torrential rainfall that lashed the region.
The coordinated rescue mission, now in its fourth day, is being spearheaded by SDPO Pakyong, Bikash Peter Rai, and Pakyong Police Station’s SHO, Inspector Pradeep Chhetri. Teams from the Sikkim Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with dedicated local volunteers, have been deployed. They are meticulously scouring the riverbanks, battling treacherous terrain and dangerous currents in their relentless efforts.
Anish, son of Indra Bahadur Chettri and a resident of Setipool, was last seen just before the intense night rains. Authorities suspect he may have lost his footing on the rain-slicked, unstable ground near the river and fallen in.
Heartbroken family members and concerned local residents have joined the search, which has now expanded to cover critical points along the river’s course. Officials have affirmed their commitment, stating that the operation will continue round-the-clock until Anish is found or conclusive evidence emerges.
