Prime Minister Modi’s Northeast Sojourn Confirmed for September 8

Guwahati– Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to make a significant visit to Assam on September 8, where he will participate in a trio of government programmes. The much-anticipated announcement came from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, although specific details regarding the nature of these events remain under wraps for now. This upcoming visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on development initiatives in the Northeast.

This confirmation follows a busy itinerary for the Prime Minister, who is presently undertaking a two-state tour today, July 18, covering Bihar and West Bengal. His engagements in these states involve the inauguration and laying of foundation stones for an array of infrastructure projects, collectively valued at a staggering ₹12,000 crore.

In Motihari, Bihar, the Prime Minister is set to unveil projects exceeding ₹7,200 crore. These transformative initiatives include the establishment of new Software Technology Parks, the flag-off of four new Amrit Bharat trains, and substantial upgrades to road infrastructure, promising enhanced connectivity and technological advancement for the region. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi shared, “Will be in Motihari, Bihar, tomorrow, 18th July. Development works worth Rs. 7200 crore will be dedicated to the nation or their foundation stones would be laid. These works cover Software Technology Parks, four new Amrit Bharat trains, road projects and more.”

Following his Bihar commitments, the Prime Minister will journey to Durgapur, West Bengal. Here, he is scheduled to dedicate and lay the foundation for projects surpassing ₹5,000 crore, spanning vital sectors such as oil and gas, power, roadways, and railways, as per a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. In another post on X, he expressed, “Looking forward to being among the people of West Bengal tomorrow, 18th July. At a programme in Durgapur, will lay the foundation stones for various works and also inaugurate projects worth over Rs. 5000 crore.” Beyond the developmental agenda, the West Bengal visit also carries a palpable political resonance. Prime Minister Modi is expected to address a BJP rally in Durgapur, where he is anticipated to deliver sharp criticism aimed at the ruling Trinamool Congress. He had earlier posted, “West Bengal is suffering due to TMC misrule. People are seeing the BJP with hope and are convinced that only the BJP can deliver on development.”
