Kathalguri – A night of terror descended upon Kathalguri as a wild elephant wreaked extensive damage on a local residence, leaving its owner distraught and the community gripped by fear. The jumbo’s destructive rampage has once again underscored the escalating human-wildlife conflict in the region, with residents now desperately appealing for immediate intervention from authorities.
The targeted house, belonging to local woman Lakhi Munda, bore the brunt of the pachyderm’s fury. Munda reported widespread destruction across her home, paintng a grim picture of the elephant’s unchecked rampage through her property.
Despite frantic efforts by villagers to alert the forest department immediately following the incident, no officials had arrived at the scene by the time of this report. This glaring lack of response has ignited considerable frustration and apprehension among residents, who are deeply concerned about the potential for further elephant incursions into their settled areas. The delayed response has only amplified their anxieties, with the community feeling increasingly vulnerable.
This latest incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent problem of wild elephants straying into human habitations in the area, primarily in search of food. Such occurrences have become increasingly frequent, leading to a precarious coexistence between humans and wildlife.
With their safety now clearly compromised, the distressed locals are urgently calling upon the authorities to implement swift and effective measures to prevent future such incidents and to ensure the long-term security of the Kathalguri community. They are demanding tangible action to mitigate the human-wildlife conflict before another tragedy strikes.
