Assam: Sarupeta Police Bust Illegal Liquor Operation in Puthimari, Locals Allege Excise Department Collusion
Guwahati: Sarupeta Police, in a swift late-night operation in Bajali’s Puthimari area, successfully seized four cartons of illegal liquor, a move that has ignited considerable public discourse and commendation from local residents.
The raid, conducted with the crucial support of vigilant community members, has once again cast a harsh light on the persistent and seemingly unhindered illicit liquor trade flourishing within the region.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the targeted establishment had been under the scanner for a considerable period, with residents consistently voicing their apprehensions regarding the clandestine sale of alcohol. While the raid unequivocally substantiated these long-held fears, the proprietor of the shop reportedly managed to evade capture, having apparently been tipped off about the approaching police contingent. This incident has, in turn, sharply rekindled serious accusations concerning an alleged nexus between certain elements within the Bajali Excise Department and individuals deeply entrenched in the illicit liquor business.
Local inhabitants vehemently assert that a segment of excise officials has, for an extended period, either deliberately overlooked these unlawful activities or, more disturbingly, actively facilitated them. This perceived unholy alliance is widely believed to be a fundamental factor contributing to the unchecked proliferation of the illegal liquor trade across the area.
