Manipur Police Nab Four KCP (PWG) Cadres in Kakching Operation

Imphal: In a significant breakthrough, Manipur Police on Wednesday apprehended four members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) during an intelligence-led operation in the Wabagai area of Kakching district. The arrests are part of intensified efforts by security forces to curb underground activities in the region.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Laishram Nanao Singh, 41, of Wabagai Mairengbam Leikai; Mayengbam Shanjit Singh, 51, and Khaidem Rajesh Singh, 45, both from Wabagai Tera Urak; and Laishram Ranjit Meitei, 51, of Yurembam Awang Leikai, Imphal West district. Officials recovered a .32 pistol, four mobile phones, and a COMET 10×50 DPSI binocular from their possession, indicating their suspected involvement in coordinating militant operations.

The arrests come amidst ongoing, widespread search operations across various fringe and sensitive areas of Manipur. Just a day after the Kakching arrests, on July 24, a separate operation by security forces in the Siden area under Churachandpur Police Station yielded a substantial cache of arms and explosives.

The recovered items from the Churachandpur operation include a .22 rifle (without magazine), a 9mm carbine with magazine, a 9mm pistol with magazine, six SB rifles, a 12-bore rifle, a single-barrel bolt-action rifle, a modified long-range mortar (Pompi), three live Pompi bombs, two Baofeng handsets, a smoke grenade, and assorted ammunition. Security officials have reiterated that these sustained and intensified operations are crucial to reining in militant activities and ensuring the safety and security of vulnerable communities across the state.
