Sikkim CM Unveils Key Infrastructure Boosts for Gangtok

Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today inaugurated three pivotal public infrastructure projects across Gangtok, ushering in significant enhancements to pedestrian safety, financial accessibility, and local law enforcement capabilities. The day’s events saw the unveiling of a much-anticipated foot overbridge, a new State Bank of Sikkim branch, and a crucial police outpost.

The morning commenced with the inauguration of a long-awaited foot overbridge near Holy Cross School, a bustling thoroughfare that has long posed safety concerns for students and parents alike. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Minister expressed his delight, stating, “This bridge will now enable students and parents to cross the busy road safely, significantly reducing the risk of accidents in this high-traffic area while also improving overall vehicular movement and mobility.” The new structure is set to alleviate congestion and ensure safer daily commutes for schoolchildren and their guardians in one of the city’s most active zones.

Later, the Chief Minister proceeded to Daragaon to inaugurate a new branch of the State Bank of Sikkim (SBS). Emphasising the state’s commitment to wider financial inclusion, Tamang remarked, “I am confident that this branch will serve the needs of the local community and contribute to their financial well-being.” This expansion of SBS services is poised to offer easier and more convenient banking access to residents in Daragaon and its neighbouring localities.

Concluding the day’s series of inaugurations, CM Tamang unveiled a new police outpost at Deorali, a move aimed at bolstering law enforcement’s presence and responsiveness in the capital. The Chief Minister highlighted the facility’s importance, stating, “The newly established police outpost in Deorali is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of law enforcement and ensuring the safety and security of residents in the town and surrounding areas.” This new outpost is expected to significantly improve emergency response times, enhance surveillance, and fortify public safety across the area. These comprehensive inaugurations underscore the Sikkim government’s persistent dedication to fostering grassroots development and elevating civic amenities throughout the state.
