Sikkim Kicks Off State-Level Boxing Championship with Grand Fanfare

Reshithang: The Khel Gaon Sports Complex in Reshithang today became the vibrant epicentre of young boxing talent as the 19th Sub-Junior and 20th Junior State-Level Boxing Championship officially commenced. Organised by the Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA), this eagerly awaited three-day event has brought together promising pugilists from all six districts of the state, showcasing the widespread passion for the sport in Sikkim.

The opening ceremony, held this morning, was a spectacle of enthusiasm and pride. Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, N.B. Dahal, Patron of SABA and Minister of Roads and Bridges, officially inaugurated the tournament. In his address, Minister Dahal lauded the unwavering dedication of the young athletes, underscoring the pivotal role of sports in inculcating discipline, fostering strong character, and promoting unity among the youth. His words resonated deeply with the budding boxers and the eager audience alike, highlighting the state government’s commitment to nurturing sporting excellence.

A strong contingent of distinguished guests further amplified the significance of the event, demonstrating robust support for grassroots sports development in the Himalayan state. Among those present were Soreng MLA Aditya Golay, Burtuk MLA Kala Rai, Advisor to the Cooperative Department Siam Pradhan, Singtam Nagar Panchayat President Suresh Tamang, and former MLA E.M. Prasad Sharma. Their collective presence served as a powerful endorsement of the championship’s aim to unearth and hone future boxing champions from Sikkim.

Over the next three days, the Khel Gaon Sports Complex will witness intense competition as sub-junior and junior boxers step into the ring across various weight categories.
