NEHARI, Brahmaputra Board Successfully concludes Workshop on “DPR Preparation for Flood Protection & Anti-Erosion (Module-I)

Guwahati: Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Ranbir Singh, IAS (Retd.), Chairman of the Brahmaputra Board, the North Eastern Hydraulic and Allied Research Institute (NEHARI), in collaboration with the National Water Academy (NWA), Pune, successfully concluded a five-day intensive training workshop titled “DPR Preparation for Flood Protection & Anti-Erosion (Module-I).”

The programme, held from July 22nd to 26th, 2025, aimed to equip professionals with crucial skills for tackling the region’s persistent flood and erosion challenges.

The workshop commenced virtually with an inauguration by D.S. Chaskar, Chief Engineer, NWA, Pune. Dignitaries present included Dr. Basanta Kr. Deka, Chief Engineer, Brahmaputra Board; Asheesh Kumar Singhal, Director, NWA; and Dr. Ranjit Deka, Director, NEHARI, Brahmaputra Board.

Participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum covering diverse aspects of Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation for flood protection and anti-erosion initiatives. Key topics included guidelines for DPR preparation, survey and investigation techniques for flood and erosion management schemes, and accurate cost estimation of flood management works.

The programme also delved into the Project Appraisal Management System (e-PAMS Portal), design flood estimation, and the intricate design of flood embankments, bank revetments, spurs/groynes, and RCC porcupine structures, alongside drainage improvement works.

A highlight was the introduction and practical application of the BRAHMA Model, coupled with fundamentals of GIS.

Expert sessions were conducted by distinguished professionals from GFCC Lucknow, CWC Guwahati, NIH Guwahati, IIT Guwahati, and NWA, Pune, enriching the learning experience for all.

In a move towards holistic well-being, NEHARI also organised a well-received yoga session led by Yoga Instructor Gitima Deka, witnessing enthusiastic participation from both faculty and trainees.

The workshop culminated in a valedictory session chaired by Dr. Ranbir Singh, IAS (Retd.), with the notable presence of Dr. Bipul Talukdar, Principal, Assam Engineering College (AEC), Guwahati. Dr. Ranjit Deka, Director of NEHARI, provided a concise summary of the workshop’s key achievements and takeaways.

In his closing address, Dr. Singh underscored the paramount importance of cultivating an attitude of self-learning among the participants. A total of 29 professionals from various offices of the Brahmaputra Board and Water Resources Departments across North Eastern states, including Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh, benefited from this vital training.
