Youth Power Ignites Sikkim Boxing Championship, CM’s Spouse Graces Event
Gangtok: The Reshithang Sports Complex was a hive of activity today as the 19th Sub-Junior and 20th Junior Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2025 roared into its second day. The excitement reached a crescendo with the esteemed presence of Sharda Tamang Golay, spouse of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who officiated as the chief guest for the second half’s opening ceremony.
Addressing an enthusiastic gathering, Mrs. Golay passionately spoke about the boundless potential within Sikkim’s youth, urging the young pugilists to maintain discipline and unwavering commitment. She highlighted how sports serve as a powerful tool for character building and shaping promising futures, extending Sikkim’s influence well beyond its geographical boundaries.
The three-day championship, meticulously organised by the Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA), kicked off on July 26, drawing a vibrant contingent of aspiring boxers from all corners of the state. This event has truly become a testament to the burgeoning boxing talent at the grassroots level in Sikkim.
The occasion was further distinguished by the attendance of several prominent dignitaries, including Yanchen Doma Tamang, Secretary of Sports & Youth Affairs; Pravaker Golay Tamang, Chief Coordinator of Jun Prokosta Kalyan; Tshering Palden Bhutia, Deputy Mayor of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation; and Rinzing W. Bhutia, Chairperson of the State Sports Development Board.
SABA President and Arjuna Awardee Jas Lal Pradhan, alongside Dronacharya Awardee Sandhya Gurung, extended a warm welcome to the guests, expressing profound gratitude to the state government for its steadfast dedication to youth and sports development. Mr. Pradhan emphasised the crucial role of such championships in unearthing raw talent and instilling invaluable life lessons like discipline and self-belief in the younger generation.
With every punch and dodge, the Reshithang Sports Complex has truly transformed into a dynamic arena, fostering both sporting excellence and youth empowerment as young boxers vie for state-level glory and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
