Local Man Fined Rs 1,500 for Assaulting Wife, Strangling Child

East Jaintia Hills: A man from the East Jaintia Hills district has been convicted and ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1,500 for physically assaulting his wife and attempting to strangle their three-year-old child. The verdict was delivered by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, bringing an end to a case that began nearly six years ago.

The case was set in motion when the victim, Teilang Supuh, filed a police complaint at the Umpleng AD Camp. She reported that her husband had tried to strangle their young son and had threatened to kill her. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under sections 352, 323, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

After a thorough investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused, Morning War, on September 17, 2019. The trial, titled “State of Meghalaya vs Morning War,” concluded with the court finding him guilty of the assault charges.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate sentenced Morning War under sections 352 and 323 of the IPC. He was fined Rs 500 for the first offence and Rs 1,000 for the second, resulting in a total penalty of Rs 1,500. The Superintendent of Police for East Jaintia Hills District confirmed the details of the conviction, highlighting the successful conclusion of the legal proceedings.
