IMD Predicts Week of Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms for Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh is bracing for a wet week ahead as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts persistent and widespread rainfall across the state from July 31 to August 6. The downpour is expected to hit both eastern and western districts, with warnings issued for potential waterlogging and localised flooding in some areas. Residents are advised to stay alert as the monsoon system intensifies over the region.
The detailed district-wise forecast indicates that several areas, including Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, and Kurung Kumey, are in for a spell of continuous rain. Meanwhile, central districts like Papum Pare, Upper Subansiri, and West Siang are also on high alert for regular thundershowers. The eastern parts of the state, such as Anjaw, Lohit, and Changlang, are expected to receive extensive rainfall, especially during the first half of the week. Of particular concern are the Lower Dibang Valley and Dibang Valley, where the IMD has warned of intense rainfall, urging local authorities and residents to prepare for possible waterlogging and flash floods.
The latest 24-hour data reveals that Longding received the maximum rainfall, recording 59 mm, followed by Tawang at 11.5 mm and Seppa at 10.4 mm. While some locations like Ziro and Dirang experienced a dry spell, meteorological conditions remain highly favourable for a significant increase in precipitation over the coming days, confirming the IMD’s forecast of a rain-soaked week for the state.
