Kuki Community’s Plight a ‘Humanitarian Crisis’, Manipur Congress Leader Urges Naga Organisations to Lift Blockade
IMPHAL – In a powerful plea to end a humanitarian crisis, Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip, the Vice President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, has called upon Naga organisations to immediately lift the ongoing bandh between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur. The appeal is a direct response to the severe difficulties faced by the Kuki community, whose essential travel and relief operations have been severely hampered by the blockade.
In a letter addressed to the Foot Hills Naga Co-ordinating Committee (FNC), Dr. Haokip highlighted the immense suffering of displaced and affected communities since the ethnic violence began on May 3, 2023. He acknowledged the collective pain and loss of lives and property, emphasising that while peace efforts are underway with the support of multiple stakeholders, including Naga organisations, the blockade serves as a significant impediment to progress. The Congress leader urged the FNC to prioritise humanitarian needs and work towards an inclusive resolution.
The appeal, a copy of which was also forwarded to other key Naga bodies, including the RNC, LNC (Eastern Zone), and RNYM/OM-NTL, underscores the urgent need for a unified and coordinated response to the crisis. Dr. Haokip expressed hope that empathy and dialogue would ultimately pave the way for healing and unity in the strife-torn region, ensuring that much-needed relief and rehabilitation efforts are not stalled.
