Manipur Security Forces Launch Crackdown, Nab Key Insurgents and Drug Traffickers in Coordinated Raids
Imphal: In a series of swift and coordinated operations, Manipur’s security forces have struck a significant blow against insurgency and narcotics trafficking, arresting a total of eight individuals linked to banned outfits and drug cartels across the state.
The two-day crackdown, carried out on August 1 and 2, saw the apprehension of key operatives from various proscribed groups, as well as the seizure of a large haul of illegal drugs and cash. The arrests highlight a renewed and resolute effort by authorities to dismantle the intricate network of crime and extremism that has plagued the region.
On August 2, security personnel apprehended Ngangbam Amarjit Singh, also known as Nono, a 37-year-old active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), from his residence in Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai, Imphal East. Singh, who was allegedly involved in a string of criminal activities including extortion, criminal intimidation, and the earlier abduction of a doctor, was found with a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card. The previous day, another key operative, Yaikhom Moramba Singh, 21, of the KCP (MFL) faction, was nabbed from Mantripukhri in Imphal East. He stands accused of extorting money from the public and allegedly snatching arms and ammunition from state forces. Found with Rs 10,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and an Aadhaar card, his arrest is a crucial step towards curbing the financial and logistical support systems of the insurgent group.
In a separate operation on the same day, Manipur Police arrested Wahengbam Isriel Singh alias Chalamba, a self-styled Major of the KCP, from Langol Type-II in Imphal West. The 47-year-old had reportedly issued threats to government officials, elected representatives, and the public in Bishnupur district. A mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from him, providing crucial intelligence for further investigations into the group’s coercion tactics.
The crackdown extended to narcotics trafficking, with authorities making a significant seizure in Churachandpur district. A woman identified as Chiinlunniang, 39, from Vaal Veng village, was apprehended near Mata village while transporting a large consignment of approximately 2.4 kilograms of WY tablets in a Bolero pickup vehicle.
