GIAL Cargo Terminal at Guwahati Airport Shatters Records with Landmark 952 MT Haul
Guwahati: The domestic cargo terminal at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) has achieved a significant milestone, handling a staggering 952 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo in a single month.
This record-breaking performance in July has left the previous all-time high of 841 MT in the dust, marking an impressive 13.2 per cent surge in overall cargo throughput. The remarkable growth story is largely driven by a substantial 15.26 per cent boost in inbound cargo, with consignments from Delhi and Bengaluru leading the charge. This jump in inbound volumes underscores the terminal’s enhanced operational prowess and its burgeoning reputation as a reliable logistics hub for the entire Northeast region.
On the flip side, outbound cargo also showcased a healthy 5.24 per cent increase, highlighting the airport’s crucial role in connecting the region’s trade to major metros across the country. Agartala and Imphal emerged as the star performers on the outbound front, followed closely by Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. This exceptional feat, according to a GIAL release, is the culmination of streamlined operational processes, a dedicated workforce, and a customer-centric approach that consistently surpasses stakeholder expectations. The terminal’s robust capabilities in managing increasing volumes while upholding high standards of efficiency and service are on full display. This achievement is a testament to the ongoing commitment to operational excellence and solidifies the growing importance of Northeast India in the national supply chain. With continuous infrastructure upgrades and a relentless focus on efficiency, GIAL is poised to scale even greater heights in cargo handling, cementing its position as the premier cargo gateway for the Northeast and fueling economic growth and connectivity for the region.
