Sikkim Fortifies Judicial Infrastructure, CM Unveils New Court Complex in Pakyong
Gangtok – In a significant move to bolster judicial access and ensure justice for all citizens, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today laid the foundation stone for a new District Court Complex in Pakyong. The initiative, hailed as a step toward bringing judicial services closer to the state’s populace, especially in far-flung regions, was undertaken in the presence of Sikkim High Court Chief Justice Biswanath Somadder.
Addressing the gathering, CM Tamang underscored his government’s unwavering commitment to fortifying judicial infrastructure, stating that courts are “temples of justice.” He expressed that the new complex in Pakyong symbolizes a key milestone in ensuring no citizen is deprived of justice owing to geographical barriers or resource limitations.
The chief minister also highlighted recent governmental reforms aimed at modernising the state’s legal framework. He mentioned the establishment of the Directorate of Prosecution, which he believes will be pivotal in guaranteeing timely and fair prosecution, thereby enhancing accountability and public trust. Additionally, he noted the ongoing progress on the Sikkim National Law University, an institution designed to cultivate the next generation of legal experts and academics.
Tamang laid special emphasis on the need for effective implementation of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, characterising these as groundbreaking legal reforms. He also lauded the Sikkim State Legal Services Authority for its commendable efforts in conducting legal awareness campaigns across schools and villages, which have been instrumental in broadening access to justice and legal knowledge throughout the state.
