Imphal: In a targeted and decisive move to curb criminal activities, Manipur’s security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations, leading to significant arrests and a continued clampdown on public nuisances. The coordinated efforts on August 16 have netted a suspected extortionist and a vehicle thief, underscoring the state’s unwavering resolve to maintain law and order.
Acting on specific intelligence, security personnel successfully apprehended Mayengbam Jibon Singh, a 51-year-old active cadre of the proscribed RPF/PLA, from his residence in Patsoi Part 4, Imphal West. Singh was reportedly involved in a widespread extortion racket, targeting local shops, business establishments, and the general populace in the valley areas. Officials confiscated a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card from his possession.
In a separate operation in Thoubal district, police arrested a vehicle lifter, Md. Nawas Khan, 31, from Tentha Makha Sangaiyumpham Mairenkhun. The arrest, made near the District Hospital, led to the recovery of a stolen two-wheeler, a Honda Pleasure bearing registration number MN01AL8555.
These arrests come amidst a broader drive by Manipur Police to enforce traffic regulations and enhance public safety. On August 16 alone, police issued 27 challans, collecting a total of ₹71,000 in fines for various motor vehicle violations. The crackdown on vehicle decorum also saw the removal of tinted films from five vehicles on Independence Day, following the removal of films from seven vehicles on August 14.
Meanwhile, a total of 114 Nakas and checkpoints were established in both hill and valley districts to conduct thorough search and area domination exercises in vulnerable pockets. While no detentions were reported from these checkpoints, authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to continuing these operations with full force to ensure a secure and peaceful environment for all residents.
