Police Seize Heroin Worth Crores, Bust Inter-District Drug Ring in Manipur
Imphal: In a significant victory against the state’s ongoing drug menace, Manipur Police have arrested three individuals and confiscated a large quantity of heroin powder in a swift operation.
The arrests, carried out on Tuesday, August 19, took place at the Wabagai Lamkhai Thongkha area, falling under the jurisdiction of Kakching Police Station. The seized narcotics, valued in crores on the black market, were packaged into 91 soap cases and weighed an estimated 1.12 kilograms.
The arrested trio has been identified as Thinmai Kaisidindou Liangmei, 53, from Taban village in Tamenglong district; Lunghipuiliu, 37, of Kawalong, also in Tamenglong district; and Nanathongliu, 42, from Makui village in Kangpokpi district. The arrests highlight a network operating across different districts, with police sources indicating the group’s involvement in a wider drug trafficking syndicate. Along with the substantial haul of heroin, police personnel also seized a Bolero vehicle, five mobile phones, and two Aadhaar cards from the suspects.
Authorities have registered a case and initiated a comprehensive investigation to unearth the full extent of the network and identify other individuals involved. The operation is part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking, as Manipur remains a crucial transit point for the smuggling of narcotics.
