Senior Jurist Justice (Retd.) B. Sudershan Reddy Files Nomination for Vice-Presidential Post
New Delhi: In a significant political development, former Supreme Court Justice (Retd.) B. Sudershan Reddy formally threw his hat into the ring for the Vice-Presidential election today, submitting his nomination papers as the united candidate of the Opposition INDIA alliance. The filing took place at the office of the Secretary-General in Parliament House, marking a pivotal moment in the lead-up to the polls.
Following the submission of his papers, Justice Reddy released a statement expressing his deep gratitude to the Opposition parties for reposing their faith in him. He articulated that he was approaching the high-stakes election with a sense of “humility, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to the Constitution.” He further underscored that this election was about more than just a person; it was a chance to “reaffirm the idea of India as envisaged by our founders—an India where Parliament functions with integrity, where dissent is respected, and where institutions serve the people with independence and fairness.”
Drawing upon his long and distinguished career on the bench, Justice Reddy reflected on the foundational pillars of the Republic. He stated that the nation’s strength is rooted in “the dignity of every individual, the protection of constitutional morality, and the unity in our diversity.” He also acknowledged the crucial nature of the Vice President’s position as the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha. Pledging to uphold the highest traditions of parliamentary democracy, he affirmed, “I pledge to discharge that role with impartiality, dignity, and a steadfast commitment to dialogue and decorum.”
