Manipur Governor Bhalla Addresses Healthcare and Humanitarian Concerns in Imphal
IMPHAL: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla held two crucial meetings at the Raj Bhavan today, focusing on the dual challenges of expanding healthcare access and providing relief to the state’s displaced population.
In the first meeting, the Governor was briefed on the latest advancements in cancer care by Dileep Mangsuli, Chairman of the American Oncology Institute (AOI). Mangsuli detailed AOI’s extensive network of 90 treatment centres across India, highlighting the unique position of its Manipur facility as the sole comprehensive cancer treatment unit in the region.
The institute, equipped with advanced surgical oncology theatres, has been instrumental in making cancer treatment accessible to a wider populace. The Chairman stated that approximately 60 per cent of patients receive treatment under government-sponsored health schemes such as Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY and CMHT cards.
In the second meeting, Governor Bhalla engaged with a delegation of civil society organisations representing internally displaced persons (IDPs). The representatives presented a sobering account of the challenges faced by thousands of families affected by the ongoing ethnic tensions. The delegation raised a number of pressing issues, including poor road connectivity to relief camps, significant delays in the return of families to their original homes, the disruption of children’s education, inadequate healthcare services, and substandard housing conditions.
Governor Bhalla, accompanied by the Commissioner (Home) and his secretary, assured the delegation that he had already forwarded their concerns to the appropriate government departments and that continuous efforts were being made to find swift resolutions to these humanitarian issues.
