Chief Minister Launches Entrepreneurship Scheme, Empowering Sikkim’s Youth
Gangtok: In a significant move to tackle unemployment and foster a culture of self-reliance, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Udhyamsheelta Vikas Yojna’.
The flagship scheme, unveiled at an event in Gangtok, aims to provide a robust platform for the state’s youth to venture into entrepreneurship and create their own livelihoods.
The launch ceremony saw the Chief Minister personally hand over cheques to 132 beneficiaries, marking the initial phase of the scheme’s implementation. The financial assistance, disbursed as a grant, covers 50 per cent of the project cost, up to a maximum of five lakh rupees. This substantial support is designed to ease the financial burden on budding entrepreneurs, enabling them to kickstart their ventures without the need for traditional loans.
Speaking at the event, CM Tamang underscored his government’s unwavering commitment to empowering the youth. He highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader vision to shift the mindset from a reliance on government jobs towards embracing innovation and self-employment. “We propose to give 50 per cent of the cost of a project to the young entrepreneurs as grants,” he stated, reiterating the government’s resolve. The Chief Minister also mentioned other impactful initiatives like the SEED Cell, Sikkim INSPIRES, and the Skilled Youth Startup Scheme, all of which are designed to create a conducive ecosystem for young innovators.
Tamang passionately urged the state’s youth to embrace creativity and pursue self-employment with confidence. He encouraged them to look beyond the conventional path of government employment and instead, forge their own destinies. The Chief Minister concluded his address by calling upon the younger generation to uphold the legacy of bold innovation and resilience, thereby contributing to the state’s economic growth and prosperity.
