Historic Rose-Gold Time Capsule Sealed in Sikkim, Preserving Legacy for Future Generations
GANGTOK: In a poignant ceremony steeped in history and forward-looking vision, a 32-kg rose-gold time capsule was sealed and buried at the Rustomji Deer Park, Tashiling Secretariat premises on August 21, commemorating a significant chapter in Sikkim’s journey. Crafted from surgical-grade stainless steel, this unique vessel is a repository of the state’s rich cultural heritage, time-honoured traditions, and monumental developmental strides. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang performed the final rites of sealing and burial, marking a milestone for a state that has consistently championed its unique identity.
The time capsule, a meticulous compilation of Sikkim’s past and present, is intended to serve as a bridge to the future. It is scheduled to be unearthed on May 16, 2075, to coincide with the centenary celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood. This long-term preservation effort is designed to allow future generations a tangible connection to their roots, offering them a glimpse into the values, struggles, and achievements of their forebears.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Tamang articulated the profound significance of the moment, describing it as a landmark occasion in Sikkim’s history. He expressed his belief that the capsule, when opened five decades from now, would tell a powerful story of Sikkim’s indomitable spirit, its relentless pursuit of progress, and the unwavering solidarity of its people. The narrative preserved within is expected to inspire and guide those who will inherit the state’s legacy. The ceremony was graced by prominent figures including Sikkim Assembly Speaker Mingma N Sherpa and several cabinet ministers, underscoring the collective importance of the initiative.
