Army’s ‘Gajraj’ Troops Brave Night and Terrain to Rescue Injured Arunachal Cop
Itanagar: In a remarkable display of courage and inter-agency coordination, troops from the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps successfully rescued an injured police constable from the treacherous, remote RR Hill region in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district.
The constable, identified as Sange Phuntso, an official from the West Kameng SP office, had suffered a serious head injury after losing his way and falling from a cliff while on a geotagging assignment. The daring late-night operation, launched in the early hours of August 21, saw the soldiers navigate dense forests and challenging terrain to reach the stricken officer.
According to Defence PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, a swift response was initiated the moment the Army received the distress call. The rescue team provided crucial first aid at the scene before carefully evacuating the constable to a hospital in Tezpur, Assam, for specialised medical care. The prompt and decisive action, hailed by officials as a testament to the synergy between the Army, police, and civil administration, saved a life and underscored the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to humanitarian efforts. Officials have confirmed that Constable Phuntso is now out of danger and recovering well.
