Lalduhoma Calls for All-Out War on Drug Menace, Lauds Mizoram Police at MPSA Conference
AIZAWL: Chief Minister Lalduhoma has issued a clarion call for a unified fight against the drug menace, which he described as the state’s most formidable challenge, during the 15th Conference of the Mizoram Police Service Association (MPSA) held on Thursday at G.S. Arya Mess, Police Headquarters.
The Chief Minister, attending as Chief Guest, lauded the crucial role of Mizoram Police Service (MPS) officers in preserving the state’s peace and security. He underscored the grave threat posed by drug abuse, citing its direct link to the escalating HIV crisis in Mizoram. “This is not just a fight for physical health but also for spiritual wellbeing,” he said, advocating for the rule of law over brute force and urging officers to stay abreast of legislative changes.
The event, which saw Home Minister K. Sapdanga as the Guest of Honour, also marked the release of the MPSA Bio-Data 2025.
In his address, Lalduhoma highlighted recent governmental initiatives aimed at strengthening law enforcement and governance. He noted the establishment of a new Inquiry Wing for the Lok Ayukta, staffed by three MPS officers, and praised the recruitment of 259 constables this year through what he hailed as a fair and transparent process.
The Chief Minister also called upon police personnel to give equal importance to their personal health and family life while fulfilling their professional duties. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and prosperous Mizoram, which, he claimed, has helped the state maintain its status as one of the most peaceful in the country.
Home Minister K. Sapdanga, in his remarks, commended the Mizoram Police for their effective law enforcement and announced upcoming measures to further bolster the force. MPSA President Zosangliana expressed his gratitude to the government for its consistent support, including the sanction of ₹50 crore for police quarters and various welfare schemes. MPSA General Secretary Lalmalsawma Hnamte presented the annual report, and several other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion. The Mizoram Police Service Association currently boasts a membership of 139 officers.
