Sikkim Welcomes Back Final Batch of Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrims
GANGTOK: The 10th and final batch of pilgrims on the arduous Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) returned safely to Sikkim on Sunday, August 24, concluding this year’s spiritual journey. The group of 48 pilgrims, who undertook the pilgrimage via the Nathu La Pass, were met with a warm reception and a celebratory valedictory function organised by the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC).
The successful return of this final group marks the end of the 2025 pilgrimage season, which saw approximately 500 devotees complete the sacred journey. At the event, STDC Chairman Lukendra Rasaily praised the collective effort that ensured the smooth and safe conduct of the yatra. He highlighted the extensive arrangements and tireless dedication of STDC officials, paramilitary forces, and other support agencies, whose coordination was crucial in making the pilgrimage a hitch-free experience for the devotees.
Known for its profound religious and cultural importance, the KMY attracts pilgrims from across the globe, who seek the blessings of Lord Shiva at what Hindus believe to be his divine abode. While the spiritual rewards are immense, the journey itself is a test of endurance. Pilgrims navigate challenging terrain and face extreme weather conditions, trekking at altitudes that can reach up to 19,500 feet. The physical demands necessitate thorough medical and physical preparation, underscoring the gravity and significance of completing this challenging pilgrimage.
