Assam: Scandal Brews as Manav Kalyan School Students Allege inedible Mid-Day Meals

Sribhumi – A storm of discontent is brewing at the Manav Kalyan Middle English School in Kewtakona as students openly allege serious irregularities in the government’s mid-day meal scheme. The accusations, painting a grim picture of culinary neglect, have ignited public anger and cast a shadow over an initiative designed to nourish the nation’s future. Students claim the food served is so unpalatable and deficient in quality that it is barely fit for human consumption.

The complaints detail a litany of disheartening issues. The dal, a staple of the meal, is reportedly little more than a watery, unsalted broth. The soya bean curry, meant to be a source of protein and nutrition, is described as a thin, insubstantial gravy, conspicuously lacking in the promised vegetables. While eggs are provided, students lament that they are chopped into small, inadequate pieces, far from the whole portions they are entitled to. The poor quality and insufficient quantity of the dal often leave students with no option but to eat plain rice, a far cry from a balanced and nutritious meal.

Voicing their deep frustration, several students spoke out, stating that while they understand the scheme’s purpose, the reality on their plates is a stark contrast to its noble goals. They expressed feeling helpless, forced to consume the inadequate meals with no viable alternative.

The mid-day meal scheme, a flagship government program, was instituted to combat hunger and malnutrition among school children while encouraging school attendance. However, these recent reports from Manav Kalyan Middle English School suggest that the very objectives of this laudable scheme are being undermined by gross negligence. Sources suggest that the alleged malpractices may be linked to the dereliction of duty on the part of some head teachers, raising questions about accountability and oversight in the program’s implementation.
